India Pale Ale - Commonly known as IPA. This was first brewed in the early 1700s. British Troops and citizens living in India did not have access to good British ale and any attempts to ship good quality ales to them resulted in spoilage. The inclusion of a larger amount of hops in the brewing process protected it from the heat and motion of the British sailing ships of its day. Strengths range from 4.8% ABV upwards.
